What's in a scoop
2 g of colostrum powder: 1.5 g protein, 0.3 g carbohydrate, no fat, no salt, 7 kcal. The powder is standardised to at least 30% immunoglobulin G, and holds the other components of first milk such as lactoferrin, growth factors and cytokines. Contains milk, including a little lactose.
What colostrum is
Colostrum, or first milk, is the milk a cow produces in the first days after calving, before the regular milk comes in. It is thicker and richer in protein than normal milk. A cow makes more of it than her calf drinks, and that surplus is what we use.
Where it comes from
From Dutch dairy farms. Only the surplus is collected, after the calf has had what it needs. The colostrum is gently dried into a powder so that its proteins stay intact.
How to use it
One scoop (2 g) a day in water, milk or a drink of your choice. Not with boiling water: the proteins are heat-sensitive.
