Wat wij allemaal herkennen als een paddenstoel, heet technisch gezien het “vruchtlichaam”. Net als planten hebben paddenstoelen ook een wortelachtig netwerk onder de grond, dat noemen we “mycelium”. Zie het als het verschil tussen een appel (vruchtlichaam) en de appelboom (mycelium).

Als je de voordelen van paddenstoelen wilt benutten, moet je het deel gebruiken dat die werkzame stoffen daadwerkelijk bevat – en dat is het vruchtlichaam.

Veel paddenstoelsupplementen op de markt zijn gemaakt van “mycelium op graan”. Dat is gewoon mycelium dat gekweekt wordt op bijvoorbeeld rijst of haver. Dat is goedkoper en sneller, maar het eindproduct bestaat grotendeels uit graanzetmeel en bevat nauwelijks de voordelen waar je op hoopt.

Bij Clearly gebruiken we alleen echte paddenstoelen. Onze extracten worden gemaakt van het volledige vruchtlichaam – zonder graanvullers. Dat verschil voel je.

Dubbele extractie is een methode om het maximale aan werkzame stoffen uit medicinale paddenstoelen te halen. Het bestaat uit twee stappen: een alcohol-extractie én een water-extractie.
Waarom beide nodig zijn? Paddenstoelen bevatten twee hoofdgroepen van actieve stoffen: triterpenen en polysachariden.

– Triterpenen (zoals ganoderine in Reishi of betulinezuur in Chaga) lossen op in alcohol. Daarom worden de paddenstoelen eerst enkele weken geweekt in alcohol (zoals ethanol).
– Polysachariden, waaronder immuunversterkende beta-glucanen, lossen op in water. Hiervoor worden de paddenstoelen urenlang gekookt.

Na beide extracties worden de oplossingen samengevoegd, gefilterd en ingedikt tot een krachtige tinctuur of poeder.

Deze methode wordt gezien als de beste manier om het volledige spectrum aan gezondheidsvoordelen uit paddenstoelen te halen – zowel de alcohol- als wateroplosbare stoffen.

Paddenstoelen kweken op hout in plaats van op haver (of andere granen) heeft voordelen op het gebied van voedingswaarde, medicinale kracht en duurzaamheid. Hier is waarom hout de voorkeur krijgt:

1. Natuurlijke omgeving: Medicinale soorten zoals Reishi en Maitake groeien van nature op hardhout. Kweken op hout bootst dat natuurlijke proces na en levert paddenstoelen op die dichter bij hun wilde vorm liggen.
2. Meer werkzame stoffen: Onderzoek laat zien dat op hout gekweekte paddenstoelen vaak hogere concentraties beta-glucanen en triterpenen bevatten, doordat ze voedingsstoffen uit het hout opnemen.
3. Duurzamer: Hout (zoals stammen of snippers) kan afkomstig zijn van duurzame bosbouw, terwijl granen vaak uit grootschalige landbouw komen met een grotere ecologische voetafdruk.
4. Minder vervuiling: Hout wordt zelden bespoten, terwijl granen reststoffen van pesticiden kunnen bevatten – tenzij ze biologisch zijn.

Kort gezegd: paddenstoelen groeien het best én het zuiverst als ze doen waar ze goed in zijn – groeien op hout.

Beta-glucanen zijn een specifieke soort polysachariden die uitgebreid zijn onderzocht vanwege hun immuunversterkende eigenschappen. Ze stimuleren bepaalde cellen en eiwitten in je lichaam die helpen bij het bestrijden van infecties en ziekten, waardoor je afweer sterker wordt.

Veel producten vermelden groot het gehalte aan “polysachariden” op hun verpakking. Maar het is belangrijk om te weten wát daar precies in zit. Een product kan bijvoorbeeld 30% polysachariden bevatten, maar slechts 5% daarvan beta-glucanen – en juist die beta-glucanen zijn verantwoordelijk voor het effect.
